A grand initiative at our Alumni meet
Dr.Karunakaran is a notable professor of our department who has served at our department for nearly 34 years. He has played a key role in establishing the Post graduate Chemistry department in our college. He has enlightened the minds of students with hard work and has shown a fatherly concern towards his students. Prof. M. Vellapandian, (former Head of Department of Chemistry, Kamaraj College) is a student of Dr. K. Karunakaran and an admirer too. Prof.Vellapandian completed his M.Sc. Chemistry in our college in 1974 and has served as Professor in Kamaraj College for 30 years. Our college conducted a grand Alumni meet on the 10thof August, 2015 when Prof. Vellapandian voluntarily came forward to institute an endowment in the name of Dr.Karunakaran, for Rs. 75,000/- to conduct a seminar on latest trends in chemistry for P.G. Students every year. Along with Prof. Vellapandian, Prof. M. Balasubramaniam, Dr. Perumpudayan and Mrs. M. Curie Kayal Vizhi, daughter of Dr.Karunakaran also contributed towards instituting this endowment to honour the role of their teacher Dr.Karunakaran in this prestigious institution.
Dr. Karunakaran Endowment for Rs.1,15,000 has been instituted under Kulapathi A.P.C. Veerabahu Endowment for Science and Technology to conduct special lectures for PG students
Dr. K. Karunakaran Endowment Lecture - I
Dr. K. Karunakaran Endowment Lecture - I was held on 20.10.2017 at Golden Jubilee Hall, V.O. Chidambaram College. Dr. R. Ramraj, Former Prof. & Head, Department of Physical Chemistry, Madurai Kamaraj University delivered a lecure on "Solar energy conversion via chemical methods: Molecules to Materials". Dr. A. Mathavan, Head, Department of Chemistry welcomed the gathering. Dr. T. Peter Amaladhas, Associate Professor of Chemistry introduced Dr. R. Ramraj and Dr. S. Priya@Velammal delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr. K. Karunakaran Endowment Lecture - II
Dr. K. Karunakaran Endowment Lecture - II was conducted on 2.1.2019 at 9:30 a.m. at Golden Jubilee Hall, V.O. Chidambaram College. Dr. S. Nagarajan, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology, Manipur, Langol, Imphal delivered a lecture on "Chemical reactions on single crystal surfaces and impact on controlling environmental pollution". Dr. A. Mathavan, Head of the Department welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Baby Suneetha, Assistant Professor of Chemistry introduced Dr. S. Nagarajan. Dr. S. Priya@Velammal, Assistant Professor of Chemistry delivered the vote of thanks.

Dr. K. Karunakaran Endowment Lecture - III was held on 11.2.2020 at Golden Jubilee Hall, V.O. Chidambaram College. Dr. Manoharan Ramasamy, Global Head, Process Analytics Center of Excellence, Global Pharmaceutical Operations, Merck West Point, Pennsylvania, USA delivered a lecture on "Innovation and Development of New technologies for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing". Dr. A. Mathavan, Head, Department of Chemistry welcomed the gathering. Dr. P. Rajakani delivered the vote of thanks.
